Ciudad
Vieja in Antigua Guatemala is known for being near the site of Santiago de los Caballeros,
once the capital of Guatemala which was destroyed by a mudslide in 1541.

There is a well-restored colonial church near the
plaza which is worth a visit.
In recent years many of Antigua's residents have
moved into Ciudad Vieja as foreign interest in Antigua's housing has brought
prices up higher than most Guatemalan's can afford.
How to
get there: Ciudad Vieja is about an hour's walk from Antigua,
5kms (3 miles) There are also many buses that pass through daily,
you can take them at the central market in Antigua.
